Day 11 - Sept 12th, 2008 - 294kms South Baymouth, ON to Barrie, ON
WE MADE IT!!!!!
What a lovely ride today. We did a much more manageable distance today. After waking up and purchasing our $50 ferry ticket (what a ripoff!), we were first in line for the ferry. Slowly more and more motorbikes began to arrive and we looked pretty silly. However the other bikers were awesome and the whole ferry trip ended up being a highlight of our trip. They were amazed at what we were doing on our 49cc engine. One big scary looking guy was complaining how they had done 540kms the previous day. Later in the conversation our 560+km trip the previous day came up and he was speechless. Keri was scared at first but they were all a bunch of dads out having fun and were so nice to us. One of them dropped his bike as he pulled up and hit a patch of oil. Luckily there was a bunch of big guys there to lift it off him.
Mike felt sick on the ferry. It was kinda windy and rocking about as a result. We were instructed to tie down our bikes when we first went on the ferry. We were more concerned about the scooter falling over and hitting one of the other bikes so instead of tying it down, we tied it to the wall. Now the worst that would happen was it would fall against the wall. Scratches and scuff marks were not a concern. This C3 could handle anything.
When we left the ferry the bikers wanted us to lead the way. We felt like celebrities as we led the other 9 or so bikes out past the people waiting to get on the ferry at the other end. After a couple hours of riding in the mist we slowly began to recognize things. Pulling into Keri's family's driveway was unreal. After parking the scooter and taking off our helmets for the last time it didn't feel like we were done.
Both of us would like to thank everyone we met along the way. The memories will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
