It was a beautiful drive out of BC and into Alberta. The shoulder of the hwy was really tiny though so I found it quite stressful. Had a VERY close call with a semi truck. He didn't move over at all and was about a foot away from hitting us. The wind pushed us off the shoulder into the deep gravel and we came pretty close to going over the edge into the river. The bigger tires of the C3 I think helped us quite a bit there.
We saw loads of deer on and off the road. Because of the speed (top speed at this point was about 57km/hr), we had plenty time to react and most of the deer just laughed at us. As we were winding into Fernie, BC right next to the river was a huge moose with its baby. We pulled off the road onto the gravel to get a picture. Keri had never seen a moose that close before however this moose was a bit startled by the weird contraption near it and its baby. SO, it did a sudden about face, and I decided to hit the gas and get out of there! So Keri's moose picture isn't very good as a result. But at least the moose didn't attack us. We also saw a big black bear on the other side of the water. It was about 100 feet or so away from a group of fisherman.
There was a huge rock slide near the road just after coming into Alberta. I don't remember what it was called but Keri and I were just speechless as we drove through it.
For some weird reason we decided Raymond AB would be our final destination for the night. The font size on the map was a little bigger than the other tiny places so we thought it was going to be a big town or something. Boy were we wrong. Anyways we threw on our rain gear to try and stay warm and headed into the night freezing cold. Pulling into the gas station, we got a lucky break!
A complete stranger putting gas into his vehicle offered us a place to stay. Anyways it was definately a highlight of our trip to meet such a nice family. Monti, Donna, and Kinslee opened up their cozy home for us and Donna spoiled us with a great bedtime meal. Both of us had a great deep sleep that night. :) :)
