Day 6 - Sept 7th, 2008 - 460kms Assiniboia SK to Souris, MB
I found out my Grandma passed away this morning. I felt like quitting this scooter journey, selling the c3, and flying home to be with my family. But in my heart I knew my Grandma would want us to continue. While packing up the tent and loading up the scooter I broke down, and decided I couldn't mourn my grandma and do this adventure at the same time. It just wouldn't be safe driving with my mind on other things. I tried my best to put it out of my mind and deal with it once we arrived in Ontario. It was hard.
We hit the road at 7:45am and drove until 8:30pm. We found a nice little town in Manitoba (Souris, MB), and set up our tent in their park. It was dark setting up the tent so I decided to try and get another free night. It was COLD today. We stopped in Weyburn SK, to get some warm food at Tim Hortons and spent some time in Walmart getting Keri huge -50 rated hunting boots and both of us hunting waterproof mitts. STILL we were cold!
Made another "Backpackers Pantry" dinner. It was Channa Marsala and I'm not sure if it was because we were starving or not, but it was delicious. We figured out if I honk the horn and Keri barks like a dog we can make all the cows run. It was quite entertaining. Keri got really fast at reciting the alphabet backwards. Yes Sask is very boring...especially at 55km/hr. I was singing "Hoe downs" like the show "Whose line is it anyway".
Not looking forward to a long day tomorrow.
