Day 1 - Sept 2nd, 2008 - 425kms Vancouver, BC to Osoyoos, BC
Left this morning just after 6am. It was a beautiful sunrise but we were cold within 30 minutes. We had to stop at Aggasiz to bundle up. Keri put 3 pairs of socks on! We took the #7 Loughheed Hwy out of Vancouver and then the #3 Crowsnest Hwy all the way to Osoyoos. We had originally planned to go to Oliver however the route I had mapped out took us on an old forestry road up and over a mountain. The locals laughed when I asked how to get to this road. We felt awful as we were unable to contact Dallas and his wife to let him know we couldn't make it.
The hills were pretty insane but the little 49cc engine pulled away and only slowed down to 22km/hr. We averaged about 40km/hr today. We passed quite alot of cops on the way and even the Sherriff's car passed us. Expecting the worst we were very happy to receive a wave and smile. My butt started really hurting after the first 150km, so Keris pillow came in handy to sit on. To make sure it didn't fall off the scooter, we shoved it down my pants. Keri wasn't too happy about that.
Subway was the lunch for today, as we put to use the $50 gift card I won off the radio station 94.5 The Beat. We're now in our lakeside waterfront camp site that I splurged into the budget to get. $30/night to sleep in a tent. Whats the world come too?
Keri thinks she spotted a black bear at the side of the road, and other than a few close calls with half asleep 18-wheeler semi trucks we're doing good.
