Day 8 - Sept 9th, 2008 - 434kms Warroad Minnisota to Superior Wisconsin
Well our big master plan of driving through the night tonight changed. We bought a bunch of energy drinks and snacks and we were going to sacrifice our bodies just to get their quicker. However coming into Duluth it started to get really cold and to make matters worse the freeway had alot of construction. It was down to one lane and no shoulder so I would drive full throttle (like always), and then as soon as I thought the driver tailgating us was about to shoot us I'd pull off down the embankment and let the line of traffic by. Then get back onto the road and hope to get another kilometer before I had to pull off again. Not fun.
We had our first driver of our whole trip honk at us. Keri was very close to tears behind me on this nerve wrecking experience. Stopped at a big book store once we arrived in Duluth to try and figure out how to get on the road out of Superior. I wanted a hotel on the outskirts of the city so we could make an early start to the next day. I found a Best Western and managed to talk the manager down to a cheaper rate for the night. After getting the scooter in the room we hit the indoor pool which felt like heaven after a day of riding.
We both suddenly got hungry while on the way to Duluth so stopped, boiled water, poured it in the bag and then drove for another 13 minutes until it was ready to eat. After wolfing that down we later stopped at a McDonalds and I ate 3 cheeseburgers like they were nothing! Either its the extreme boredom or the constant sitting, but we keep getting hungry. We keep running into people who are very curious about our trip, but we try to keep the conversation fairly quick in an effort to hit the road. Keri has a great helmet tan. I need to shave badly. My stubble is itchy under the helmet.
We passed quite a bit of cops today however nothing happened. So far so good.
